In a desert version of “a three hour tour” some close friends found themselves stranded in a foreign country. A short cut, a failed vehicle and you are set for 3 days wait for help to arrive. It’s interesting how quickly the essentials come in to focus; water, food, shelter and last but not least, toilet paper. Water from a questionable source, goat cheese and flat bread and for shelter, a shed that even the livestock had abandoned. No luck on the toilet paper but if there was roll to be had it could have easily fetched ten dollars. Had it not been for the locals there would have been none of the above and no way to make a fire either. We don’t expect to be in these situations and so we don’t prepare.
